PhD Supervision

I supervise two PhD students. Monalisa Haque is conducting a qualitative study of how headquarter management in a large multinational company negotiates and implements corporate environmental policies in its subsidiaries in least developed countries. Ali Al-Ghenaimi is studying the formation, growth and survival of small entrepreneurial businesses in the Sultanate of Oman.

I also supervise two DBA students. Neil Parkinson is finalising his action research project that examines strategic change in the BBC. Nouf Alsowaidi is exploring the working lives of migrant labourers in Bahrain, with an aim of providing policy recommendations to the Bahraini government on how they can be improved.

Corporate Social Responsibility

I am an inter-disciplinary researcher. My early encounters with business and management studies occurred in the field of International Business. My doctoral work on cultural change in cross-border acquisitions took me from the International Business starting point into the fields of sociology, social psychology and post-structural methodologies. For the past few years, my research focused on business ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility topics. I approach these topics using political science and post-structural methodological and theoretical perspectives. The key theoretical notions in my work are relational governance, governmentality, sovereignty, ethical leadership, and discourse.
