Teaching and Supervisory Responsibilities

Helen is the Module leader for the Undergraduate Year 1 Foundations of Marketing Module, this is a a module Helen also delivers for the Morrison's Apprenticeship Degree which allows her previous retail experience to be put to good use. She is joint leader on UG year 2 Understanding Consumers Module which incorporates Helen's core subject interest of Marketing research and Consumer Insight. She is also the Module Leader for MSc Marketing Research Theory and Practice.  Helen also provides some support on MBA Marketing modules. Helen supervises post graduate dissertations and projects which include live company projects on the MBA programme - this is a particular interest of hers as it allows her industrial experience to be put to good use. Other areas of teaching interest center on sensory marketing and  creativity.

Helen has taught at the School of Management since 2000, firstly as an associate member of staff, but on a permanent percentage contract since September 2007.

Helen's background before, and since, starting to teach at the School was based in industry. She spent 5 years in the Strategic Marketing Department at Asda, the last three as Consumer Research Manager responsible for the full bespoke research budget. During this time she was also heavily involved in designing and developing the continuous research systems and surveys.

Helen then spent two years within the manufacturing industry at wallcoverings and fabric manufacturer John Wilman Ltd. Her role here was as Research and Analysis Manager with responsibility for all consumer and trade research as well as internal marketing information systems.

Helen left this company to set up as a freelance Research and Marketing Consultant. During this time her clients included Moygashel Fabrics, Crown Paints, CO-OP Retail and various food manufacturers.

Helen's experience spreads across research design, fieldwork and implementation. It also includes extensive quantitative and qualitative experience – she is a trained and practiced qualitative moderator – an area of particular interest of hers. She has been involved in a very wide range of research projects including advertising development and monitoring, packaging and store design, product development and customer satisfaction. She was also involved, strategically, in own label development whilst at Asda, as well as the move from own label clothing to the “George” sub branding.
