PhD Supervision

Deirdre is currently co-supervising two DBA students and one PhD student. Her practical expertise in both the finance industry and consulting enhances her ability to interpret business problems which helps students researching business contexts.

Biography

Deirdre completed her PhD studies in 2013 at the Dublin Institute of Technology and immediately took up a position as Lecturer in Management at Dublin City University.

She started at University of Bradford School of Management in September 2014 as a lecturer in strategy and international business. Prior to engaging in full time PhD study in 2009 Deirdre worked in the finance industry for 19 years.

The held senior positions within various international banks and wealth management firms. She also worked for many years at a board level in the drug and substance abuse support sector.

Throughout her PhD studies Deirdre undertook lecturing and consultancy work on a part time basis.

Her research interests are in creative professional service firms and international business. She has published her work in leading academic journals including the Journal of Business Strategy and Advances in Strategic Management.

Research Areas

Deirdre's research interests relate primarily to the internationalization of services, in particular Expert and Creative services. She is interested in the more complex internationalization patterns that these firms exhibit to overcome extreme knowledge intensity as well as cultural and institutional embeddedness. Her research to date explores the question of 'how' firms internationalize by adopting a qualitative perspective according to a multiple case study research design.

Current Projects

At present she is mainly working with the rich findings from her PhD research data which focussed on the internationalization process of architecture firms.
