Professor Anant Paradkar holds an Interdisciplinary Chair in Pharmaceutical Engineering Science and is Director of the Centre for Pharmaceutical Engineering Science. He completed his PhD in Pharmaceutics and joined Bradford following a 20 year academic career in India. He has worked on various interdisciplinary collaborative research projects in the areas of process development and crystal and particle engineering, developing techniques such as crystallo-co-agglomeration, melt granulation, sono-crystallisation, spray drying of low Tg materials and liquid crystal precursors. He is currently working on the application of hot melt extrusion and sono-crystallisation to generate co-crystals and has been awarded a EPSRC funding and Yorkshire Enterprise Fellowship to strengthen exploitation and impact of this work.
In India, he received research funding from the All India Council for Technical Education, University Grants Commission, Department of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Defence. He has received an India-JSPS International Joint project on liquid crystalline systems, UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) Fellowship and a Royal Society UK-India Science Network award He has supervised 10 PhD and 45 MPharm candidates and published over 90 research papers. Currently, he is supervising/ co-supervising 15 PhD students in various areas of research.

Process Development: Currently my research focus is on non-infringing processing technologies for pharmaceuticals with special emphasis on Hot Melt Extrusion ( HME) and Ultrasound Assisted processing. Our interdisciplinary team has developed application of HME for co-crystallization. This solvent free continuous technology offers many advantages and easy for scale-up and commercialization. In process development we also focus on process optimization and characterization of process related properties like extensional rheology.
In this area our group has linkages with Professor Guo's group at Sichuan University, China and Dr. Kumarswamy and Dr. Suresh Bhat at National Chemical Laboratory, India.
Technology Opportunity Solvent-Free Continuous Technology for Co-crystallization
Formulation Development: In the area of formulation development my focus is poorly soluble drug and nutraceutical molecules. Development of amorphous systems and liquid crystalline systems are adopted for different purposes.
The novel drug delivery concepts are also extended to molecules from natural products. We are developing nanoparticulate delivery systems for treatment of neurodegenerative conditions, cancers and endometriosis.
Process Analytical Technology: The interdisciplinary group provides us with strong engineering expertise required for process analytics. Application of in-line measurement systems are being used to understand the mechanisms of novel products developed and process optimization.
