European Documentation Centre
The Library has been designated a European Documentation Centre since 1970 and receives the official publications and working documents of the European Union. It is one of over 30 such collections in the UK and one of more than 500 worldwide. The EDC is located in Floor 2 extension, J. B. Priestley Library.
Most EU publications are available online; if a title is known a simple web search will usually find the publication. Links to EU resources can be found at European Union Resources on the Web
The EDC print collection contains legislative and judicial publications; background pamphlets and studies; reports; information on grants, loans and contracts; research and development information; statistical data; indexes and guides. The printed collections are supplemented by access to a wide range of Internet resources, official EU and other databases.
Most of the EDC's publications are listed in the Library Catalogue with the location EDC. Items other than the legislation and statistical series may be borrowed. Items from the collection may be photocopied within copyright guidelines. Photocopying facilities are available.
The collection can be accessed during the J. B. Priestley Library opening hours. It is open to visitors as well as staff and students of the University. However visitors should ensure that they first arrive during Library staffed hours so that they may be issued with a Library pass.
Please ask the EDC Librarian for help using the collection. Enquiries can be made at the Social Science Librarians office in Room 2.6 (adjacent to the EDC) Monday-Friday 9.00-17.00, but email first to make sure help will be available.
