Maps and Atlases

Members of the University of Bradford have access to Edina® Digimap®, which provides a route to all of the Ordnance Survey® maps for England, Wales and Scotland.

We also subscribe to Geology Digimap, which gives access to the maps and data of the British Geological Survey; the Environment Digimap providing access to Land Cover Maps from the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH); Marine Digimap which offers marine data products; and Historic Digimap providing access to the County Series and Town Plans from early 1800s to early 1900s, and to National Grid maps from mid-1900s up until the introduction of the OS digital Land-Line product.

The Special Collections also hold over 1,000 historic maps and plans, mostly of the Yorkshire Dales, gathered and annotated by geologist and industrial archaeologist Arthur Raistrick.

The Library's collection of atlases and paper maps is kept in the Floor 1 extension.

For other types of mapping, try the following:

  • For simple geological maps, try Open Geoscience.
  • For land use mapping, try Magic.
  • For soil maps, try Soilscapes for simple mapping or LandIS Soil Science Reporter for detailed maps (registration is required, but it is free and access is instant).
