You will only need to connect to eduroam once. eduroam will store these details and subsequently you will be able to connect on campus without authentication.

If you visit another site, you should connect automatically, however you may need to change the configuration of your device if the site uses an older encryption version. Please check the website of the institution you are visiting. University of Bradford uses the encryption scheme WPA2 and AES, however some sites use WPA and TKIP.

Frequently asked questions

What is meant by 'home' and 'visitor' sites?

A home site is the institution where you are registered. A visitor site is the institution you visit.

What's the difference between 'eduroam', 'RoamNet' and 'The Cloud'?

Once you have logged into the eduroam service, you will not have to login the next time you want to use it. eduroam stores your authentication details and will connect automatically. If you visit another site, you should connect automatically, however you may need to change the configuration of your device if the site uses an older encryption version. Please check the website of the institution you are visiting. University of Bradford uses the encryption scheme WPA2 and AES, some sites use WPA and TKIP.

A RoamNet login lasts for 20 hours, so you should only need to login approximately once a week if you are a full time member of staff that uses it a lot, or once a day if not.

eduroam also has an added level of security built in (as data is encrypted) and is therefore more secure than RoamNet and the Cloud.

What if my device defaults to 'The Cloud' or 'uobroamnet'?

You can ensure your device connects straight to eduroam each time by going to your WiFi settings, selecting the network that you don't wish to connect to in future and choosing 'Forget this network'. You should only need to do this if you have used 'The Cloud' or 'uobroamnet' in the past.

Can I print whilst connected to eduroam or RoamNet?

University of Bradford students and staff can use the printers on campus, from Windows laptops using eduroam or RoamNet. Unfortunately visitors cannot currently use these printers.
