Prof Murna Downs participating at the AKTIVE conference

Prof Murna Downs, Head of Bradford Dementia Group, is on the panel of a parallel session at the AKTIVE conference.

The event takes place at University of Leeds Tuesday 8th - Wednesday 9th April 2014. It brings together researchers, industry, voluntary sector and local authorities interested in the role of telecare and other technologies in supporting older people at home.

The session is entitled 'Are we there yet? Is person-centred dementia care flourishing?', and takes place between 13:30 - 14:45, on Tuesday 8th April.

Alongside Prof Down's on the panel are:

  • Professor Elizabeth Hanson, Swedish Family Care Competence Centre and Linnaeus University, Sweden
  • Madeleine Starr, MBE, Director of Business Development and Innovation, Carers UK
  • Dr Verina Waights, Open University, UK
  • Simon Williams, Director of Adult Services, London Borough of Merton, UK

The panel chair is Associate Professor Dr Kate O’Loughlin, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Sydney, Australia.

The conference is organised by the AKTIVE project (2011-2014). AKTIVE has focused on understanding the impact telecare technology has on the everyday lives of older people who are prone to falls or who suffer from cognitive impairments (including dementia) and the people who support them to live at home.
