Graduate Workforce community engagement

At the heart of the work of the Graduate Workforce Bradford (GWB) partnership are our local communities. We want to learn from the experiences of local people to understand how we can promote our graduate talent and support business to become more inclusive in their practices and workplace cultures.

We are working to ensure that all our graduates, regardless of background or ethnicity, are able to access good local jobs, progress in their career and contribute to our local economy.

We are aware that this is not always easy for graduate from Black, Asian, or minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds. Therefore, a central part of our work is to understand the barriers that some of our BAME graduates face, particularly those from a South Asian background, and work with local communities and employers to find solutions.

Our aim is to stamp out stereotypes and focus on the talent and skills of our graduates.

Working with local community organisations:

Our partners include local community organisation who we work with to deliver events and activities to promote local employment and put employers in touch with local talent. The following organisations are represented in the GWB partnership:

Community activities

GWB is working closely with the Bradford for Everyone initiative, supporting their key programme areas, particularly:

  • Getting on - address factors affecting economic participation
  • Getting along - promote greater interaction, dialogue and understanding between people from different backgrounds
  • Getting involved - generating and connecting people to opportunities to participate in community and civic life

South Asian Discussion Forum

GWB have set up the South Asian Discussion Forum which provides an opportunity for us to engage with community members, and gain an insight into local perspectives on graduate careers and how local people view the local labour market. The Forum is helping us to understand the thoughts and views of Bradford’s South Asian Community on gaining a degree qualification; career aspirations and accessing employment.
