Regulation 19

Student Accommodation

1 GENERAL

These Regulations apply to all full-time registered students of the University who live in University residential accommodation.

2 UNIVERSITY RESIDENTIAL ACCOMMODATION

i) Students who accept an offer of accommodation in University residential accommodation shall pay the appropriate residential charge, calculated in accordance with the weekly rate approved by the Council, for the whole period for which the accommodation has been accepted by them.

ii) An instalment of the residential charge shall be paid at the beginning of the session, or at the beginning of the period for which the accommodation has been accepted where this does not coincide with the beginning of the session. The instalment shall consist of the charge for the period to 31 December, 30 March or 31 July whichever shall be the sooner. A student who for any reason cannot comply with this requirement within a period of three weeks from the beginning of the period in respect of which the instalment is due, shall so inform his Warden or Sub-Warden who in exceptional circumstances may make an arrangement for an extension of credit.

iii) In exceptional circumstances students may be released by the Director of Residences and Catering from the agreement to occupy and pay charges for their accommodation for the whole of the period for which it was accepted.

iv) Where there is a Students' Association in a Hall of Residence, all students living in that Hall shall be members and the Association may levy such subscription charges and damages deposits as its members agree are appropriate and which have been approved by the Council on the recommendation of the Senate.

v) Students may be required to vacate and clear their rooms for vacations in order to make them available for maintenance or for such purposes as accommodating vacation conferences.

vi) Charges for accommodation in University residential accommodation shall be as determined from time to time by the Council.

i) Students are responsible for the cleaning of their own rooms.

ii) Students who wish to remain in residence during vacations may normally do so. Charges are made per day at the appropriate bed and breakfast rate. Meals other than breakfast may be purchased as required.

iii) Students who are absent from the University for not less than one week and not more than four weeks during term whether on holiday (in the case of research students), due to illness (except if accommodated in the University Sick Bay), or whilst attending an approved course are required to pay 25% of the normal charge for the total period of absence.

Other Halls

i) Students are responsible for the cleaning of their own rooms and for the general cleanliness and tidiness of the communal areas of the Halls.

ii) Students who wish to remain in residence during vacations other than the Summer vacation may normally do so. Charges are made per day at approximately one-seventh of the weekly charge.

iii) Students who are absent from the University for not less than one week and not more than four weeks during term whether on holiday (in the case of research students), due to illness (except if accommodated in the University Sick Bay), or whilst attending an approved course are required to pay 50% of the normal charge for the total period of absence.
