Shahnaz Ali OBE has a national reputation of excellence as an as an experienced leader in the field of health equality and inclusion. During her thirty year career she has worked in both the statutory and voluntary sectors at local, regional and national levels in the North and South of England.
Shahnaz has achieved a track record of formulating, implementing and successfully embedding equality policies and strategies both regionally and nationally at the heart of the National Health Service.
Early in her professional career she led a successful national HIVcampaign with the Health Education Authority specifically targeting the Black and Minority Ethnic community. She was the Director of Education Commissioning for South Yorkshire Workforce Development Confederation where she successfully worked with local universities commissioning them to ensure future health service workforce met the needs of its local population. More recently she was the NHS North West Director of Equality, Diversity, and Human Rights, providing strategic direction, organisational support and performance management for over 60 NHS organisations in England’s second largest region. Currently she has a consultancy that builds on the success of her book Making Equality Work as well the portal she created NEED ; it is the UK’s largest and most successful online library and portal for Equality and Diversity evidence and background knowledge,
Shahnaz grew up and went to school in Bradford and it is where most of her family still lives. She therefore feels proud of Bradford's diverse heritage and is passionate about contributing to the future of the University and its community.
