University of Bradford Council Bulletin - July 2017
In this bulletin we feature the latest news from the Bradford Excellence Programme (BEP), the Student Experience Survey and the latest appointments in the HE sector.
Members of Executive Board spent two days together earlier this month to discuss matters related to TEF, REF, BEP, the Bradford Medical School and emerging innovative practice in our student and IT services and marketing and recruitment. Members participated in an Imaginarium session, part of a series of workshops designed to provoke discussion and ideas about future global challenges and how the University can contribute.
There were some notable results from the recent general election for MPs with higher education interest including Jo Johnson, who has returned as Universities Minister, Wes Streeting and Paul Blomfield. There are a number of implications for higher education as a consequence of the election result and the back-peddling on some of the Conservative Party manifesto pledges, including grammar schools, international student numbers and immigration control, TEF and differentiated fees. Clearly the continuing debate related to Brexit is significant for universities including in terms of the potential impact on staff, students and research.
