Andrea's story
Andrea believes that companies play a central role in advancing sustainability, and that their active engagement is essential to achieve systemic change. Her work focuses on fostering sustainable value chains through collaboration with governments, civil society, and international cooperation — with a strong emphasis on private sector engagement as a key driver of environmental transformation.
Andrea has over six years of experience in corporate sustainability and public-private partnerships in Colombia. She currently works at ANDI, the National Business Association of Colombia, which represents more than 1,600 companies across sectors and accounts for approximately 55% of the country’s GDP. There, she leads strategies to strengthen sustainable and deforestation-free value chains in the agri-food sector, with a particular focus on aligning private sector practices with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Her work involves the coordination of international cooperation projects with environmental NGOs, such as the Foundation for Conservation and Sustainable Development (FCDS) to promote corporate action, territorial dialogue, and technical capacity-building.
Previously, she worked at Grupo Éxito, Colombia’s largest food retailer, where she led the environmental component of the company’s sustainability strategy. One of her most meaningful contributions was the design and implementation of a sustainable cattle ranching model with direct suppliers. In partnership with organisations such as WWF, CIAT, and UK PACT, the programme promoted regenerative practices and deforestation-free sourcing in Colombia’s livestock sector.
In addition, Andrea worked as a sustainability consultant for over three years, supporting companies across various economic sectors in designing and implementing sustainability strategies. She also led the development of corporate sustainability reports aligned with transparency and accountability indicators, helping companies communicate their environmental and social impact with clarity and credibility.
Andrea has also represented Colombia in high-level international dialogues. In May 2025, she was selected as a delegate for the Team Europe Initiative (TEI) Eurotrip on Deforestation-Free Value Chains, an outreach mission to Brussels and Bonn organised by the European Union and its partners under the Global Gateway strategy. The programme brought together public and private sector representatives from across Latin America to engage directly with European institutions, including the European Commission, national competent authorities, and private sector actors, on the operationalisation of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). She has also participated as a speaker at events such as the New York Climate Week, where she shared insights on corporate sustainability and supply chain transformation from a Latin American perspective.
Passionate about sustainable development, Andrea believes in the power of cross-sector collaboration to build a future where environmental responsibility and social justice shape the way we produce, trade, and live together.
