South Asian Heritage Month: Sabina Adam
My paternal great grandparents and grandparents originate from Gujarat in India however they lived in Mombasa for most of their lives before moving to the UK in 1967 when my dad was 6 years old. My mum and her family also lived in Gujarat in India, she moved to the UK when my parents met and married.
The traditions, culture and food from both my parents’ Indian heritage is lived on throughout my family with many Kenyan and Gujaratis recipes as favourites.
My Swahili is terrible but my Gujarati is OK!
I have fond memories of visiting India on several occasions and seeing the history and where my family live, making the link to my family even stronger.
