About the Academy

Bradford has a national reputation for quality and expertise in the fields of; film, television, interactive media, games and animation. The academy, within the School of Media, Design and Technology is our in house production company which provides opportunities for work based learning by employing students and recent graduates to work on live commercial projects for external clients.

The University of Bradford is about 'making knowledge work', so we want to harness this talent and make it available for clients that want an excellent digital product or service developing, whilst making their budget go further than they might otherwise have expected.

One of the reasons our courses have such a good track record is because of the close relationship we have with industry. We want our students to work on professional commercial jobs and commissions so that we benchmark the quality of our work against what the sector expects.

Coordinated within the Digital Media Working Academy we assign expert project managers to each job, from either our School staff or from a list of approved industry professionals. We then crew jobs from undergraduate and postgraduate students and occasionally recent graduates with the relevant professional skills who are then interviewed for the research or production positions.

Our Work

Previous projects have seen students work for; the BBC’s Bollywood Carmen, Bradford City Council, Bradford City Football Club, the NHS, Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Trelleborg Offshore UK Ltd and The Great Central Railway. Students work on both paid and voluntary projects which enable them to develop professional skills and experience.

We also work closely with the local community, from voluntary organisations through to educational institutions, we provide a whole range of digital products or events coverage to promote, disseminate and inform members and users about activities and services that are provided.

Our Projects

The Digital Media Working Academy Academy coordinates on average over 50 projects per year, which have the benefit of students engaging in practical, hands-on experiences. Projects our past and present students have worked on include;

  • Creating Bradford City of Film's website
  • Developing an app for exploring Bradford's Film Heritage
  • Filming and photographing matches for Bradford City Football Club
  • Creating an animated video for City Park Bradford
  • Working on live BBC production Bollywood Carmen
