New collaboration with BBC Radio Leeds and BBC Yorkshire

The University of Bradford's School of Media, Design and Technology have begun exciting new projects in partnership with BBC Radio Leeds and BBC Yorkshire.

As part of our continually developing relationship with the BBC; the School has started a new project which essentially provides incredible work experience opportunities for many of our students. The ongoing project involves students regularly working alongside BBC Radio Leeds in producing a series of content. So far the collaboration has included filming; The Demon Barbers at Leeds College of Music, The Dunwells at the Wardrobe and a follow up live Q&A with The Dunwells at Café 164.

Impressed with the student’s work ethic and professionalism, the BBC and bands who have so far been involved have been incredibly happy with the final products produced. With many more dates in the diary and new opportunities already arising, this is only the start of many great things to come. Upcoming events include filming Sam Parks in mid-May and Music Day in Bradford on 5th June.

Roy Player, Producer at the BBC said;

‘I can honestly say that without the help and work of the students and staff at the University of Bradford none of this so far would have happened. It’s been a pleasure working with an enthusiastic and like-minded group of people, with great production skills. The final products have created a fantastic body of work for the BBC and the bands.’

Commenting on The Demon Barbers filming Rozina Breen, Editor for BBC Radio Leeds said;

‘Very well done to everyone involved and students from the University of Bradford in filming the session for online. Well worth taking a look at the iPlayer version – visualisation and all, it looks pretty classy.’

Don’t just take Rozina’s word for it, see for yourself and watch The Demon Barbers online on the BBC website.

The School of Media, Design and Technology as from September 2015 will also be starting a second collaboration with BBC Yorkshire. A series of work experience opportunities will become available for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate students studying media courses at the University of Bradford. Students will have the opportunity to work at the BBC for two days a week over an eight week period. Roles being considered for the work experience include; editing, camera operating, floor management, sound engineering and hub management involving working in a key area of the BBC for distributing their all-important content.

These two initiatives have been brought about thanks to our strong links with industry. This is an exciting time for the School as we continue to grow such partnerships in aiming to support the high class learning and professional experience our students gain throughout their studies whilst at the University of Bradford.
