Bradford graduate film selected for international film festival

A Braduate's film has been chosen to feature in an international film festival. For nine days starting from 4 July the Curtas de Vila do Conde Film Festival in Portugal will be screening a feast of films from across the world. University of Bradford graduate, Hugo Nunes Alves Nunes, will be attending the festival on 7 July to present his film Estranged to the festival audience.

The Curtas de Vila do Conde Film Festival attracts audiences to experience the best of cinema and of performing arts, with 2015 being the 23rd edition of the festival. Estranged, a short film about a young man entering the unsettling time of adulthood, has been selected for the ‘Take One!’ section of the film festival. Hugo, creator of Estranged said;

‘Having a film selected means taking a step in the right direction. I have encountered a method of thinking and planning a movie that deserves being explored and improved.

At Bradford I was finally put in contact with high art cinema and philosophy and encouraged to study these areas, which are fundamental to the type of work I am now trying to develop. I wanted to do something, but did not know exactly how to get there. With the help of my teachers I was well directed to the kind of cinema I wanted to explore.’

Hugo graduated from the University of Bradford with an MA in Digital Media and Arts from the University’s School of Media, Design and Technology. Studying away from his home country of Portugal was a key element to developing his skills as a filmmaker;

‘Studying in Bradford meant that I become a foreigner. Having that experience gives you a different perspective about life, it changes your ideas dramatically and as a potential artist I believe this experience will be continue to be a source of inspiration for the rest of my life.’
