BIOGRAPHY +

Graduated with BSc (Hons) Physics (Nottingham 1986) and worked at the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority, Risley, developing acoustic and ultrasonic monitoring techniques for nuclear reactors (1986-89). This was followed a PhD in Artificial Intelligence applied to mechanical diagnostics and repair (Bradford 1993). After the PhD came postdoctoral research in Electrical Engineering solving Maxwell's equations (FDTD method) to calculate energy deposition in humans due to mobile phone use.
Joined Mechanical Engineering at Bradford as a lecturer in 1994, originally specialising in fluid mechanics and CFD but since extended to engines, instrumentation and numerical methods. Currently Head of Discipline for Mechanical and Automotive Engineering.
Current research interests include engine and combustion simulation, constitutive model development for flows of polymer melts, finite element methods for solution of highly non-linear time-integral constitutive models and simulation of 2-phase flows, and finite element methods for large strain solid deformation.
Current teaching is Fluid Mechanics 1, Medical Instrumentation & Imaging, Engine & Powertrain and Computer Applications of Numerical Methods.
