Crina's area of expertise lies in sustainable built environments and her specialist interest is in multi-criteria decision support systems used to develop multi-criteria analysis frameworks, methods and tools, within sustainability assessment and other multi-disciplinary/criteria holistic approaches. She has completed a Work Package that developed a framework for assessing the sustainability of noise reducing barriers and devices as part of the QUIESST EU FP7 project, and as a result of this work has been appointed as the BSI (UK) expert on the ISO and the European Committee for Standardisation CEN/TC 226/WG6 Road Traffic Noise Reducing Devices Committee. She was also appointed as a convenor for the CEN/TC 226/WG6 TG4 that will look at the implementation of sustainability and sustainability assessment in Road and Rail Traffic Noise Reducing Devices standards. In 2014 she was appointed as a Liaison Officer between CEN/TC 226 Road Equipments and CEN/TC 350 Sustainability of Construction Works.
Crina has authored/co-authored 13 books, and published over 110 papers. She is or has been Principal Investigator, Co-Investigator or Collaborator of 42 research and teaching grants worth over 11m (GBP). Crina has been leading multi-national research projects and contributing to course development in several countries.
Crina is fluent in English, German and Romanian, which is her native language, and is happy conversing in French.

She is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), a member of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and also a Member and Ambassador of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).

Current, and significant recent, funded projects
Acting as a Principal Investigator in an FP7 EU (€2,556,584) funded research grant. This three year project entitled: QUIetening the Environment for a Sustainable Surface Transport (QUIESST), had 13 partners from France, Germany, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, Austria, Belgium and the UK (University of Bradford). Crina was responsible for the work package that examined the sustainability of noise reducing barriers and devices (NRD) and the development of the first framework to be used in assessing the overall sustainability of NRDs. In June 2012 she was successful as a co-grant holder in the FP7 Science in Society call (€3,143,331) entitled: “Transforming organizational culture for gender equality in research and innovation-GENOVATE”, and in 2010 she acted as the Principal Academic in a Knowledge Transfer Partnership with Incommunities (the largest social landlord in Bradford).
Other recent grants include: Principal Investigator for a Royal Academy of Engineers HESTEM Grant in 2011, (£8,945),'Moving closer' – maximising benefits through undergraduate civil engineering placements and Principal Investigator for aCentre for Education in the Built Environment (CEBE) Grant 2011, (£6,000) on Future Skills Curriculum Development Framework'.
