Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Practice

Duration: 18 months.

Intake: 1 per academic year, usually starting mid/late September.

Target audience: Those currently employed in the Higher Education sector in a substantive teaching and/or learning support role.
Please note that this programme is not available to those whose principal relationship with the University of Bradford is as a research student; such students may engage with the development opportunities for Postgraduates Who Teach.

Aims: The Programme aims to develop the theoretical and practical knowledge, the critical and analytical abilities, and the professional and reflective practice of practitioners in lecturing and educational roles in Higher Education.

Admission requirements: The key specific admissions requirements for this programme are:

  • Participants will normally have at least a first degree awarded by an approved UK or overseas University, or a professional qualification.
  • Applicants whose first language is not English will also be expected to possess a University approved English Language qualification such as IELTS 6.5 with no sub-test 5.5.
  • You must be employed (at least part-time) in a lecturing, teaching or educational role within an approved Higher Education institution. This is because the programme draws significantly upon experiential, workbased learning. As part of the admission process you must demonstrate that you have sufficient breadth, depth and quantity of teaching and/or learner support practice within your professional role to enable you to show engagement with the range of areas of professional activity required of the UK Professional Standards Framework. This will normally include at least fifty hours of educational practice for each module studied. This is assessed as part of the admissions and application process, which may include a short admission interview. Applicants will normally need the explicit support of their employer/supervisor/ sponsor as appropriate.
