Learn to create and innovate through software development and intelligent systems.

This course is designed for problem-solvers who want to address complex challenges in an increasingly connected and AI-driven world.

You will develop a strong foundation in software engineering, including programming, system design, testing and development practices.

Alongside this, you will be introduced to artificial intelligence and how it can be integrated into real-world applications.

As you progress, you will explore how software and AI technologies work together to solve complex problems. You will develop your understanding of areas such as cloud-based systems, data-driven applications and AI integration, learning how to design scalable and reliable systems.

In your final year, you will focus on more advanced and applied topics, including AI engineering and cloud-based development, alongside a major individual project. This will give you the opportunity to apply your knowledge to a real-world problem and develop solutions that reflect current industry practices.

The programme prepares you for careers in software engineering, AI development and related technology roles, as well as further study in artificial intelligence, software engineering and related fields.

Teaching, learning and assessment

You will learn through a combination of lectures, tutorials, workshops and practical laboratory sessions, where you will develop both theoretical understanding and hands-on technical skills.

There is a strong emphasis on applying your learning to real-world problems through programming tasks, system design activities and project work.

In the early stages of the programme, you will focus on building core skills in programming, software development and problem-solving. You will learn how to design, implement and test software systems, working with modern tools and development environments.

As you progress, you will explore more advanced topics in software engineering alongside artificial intelligence. You will develop your ability to design and build complex systems, including AI-enabled applications, and gain experience of working with data-driven systems and cloud-based technologies.

In your final year, you will undertake a substantial individual project, allowing you to apply your knowledge to a real-world problem. This provides an opportunity to demonstrate your technical, analytical and problem-solving skills, and to develop solutions that reflect current industry practices.

Assessment varies by module and may include coursework, programming assignments, technical reports, presentations and examinations. You will receive feedback to support your development, with assessments becoming more independent and applied as you progress.
