Module

Teaching, learning and assessment

The Foundation Year uses a range of teaching methods to support your transition to university-level study. You will learn through a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops and practical sessions, including laboratory-based activities where you will develop hands-on scientific skills.

You will study core topics that introduce you to human biology, scientific inquiry and professional practice, alongside opportunities to explore areas such as chemistry and public health. Teaching is designed to help you build confidence in understanding scientific concepts, working with data and applying your knowledge to real-world scenarios.

Throughout the year, there is a strong emphasis on developing your academic skills. You will be supported to improve your approach to learning, including how to research, analyse information and communicate your ideas effectively.

+AB26Assessment varies across modules and may include coursework, reports, presentations, practical tasks and examinations. You will receive regular feedback to support your development, with assessments designed to help you build confidence and prepare for the expectations of degree-level study.
