Overview

This course is tailored for professional managers in retail organisations who take lead responsibility for people, projects, operations and/or services to deliver long-term organisational success.

It will typically take three years to complete, although the exact duration will be dependent on your previous experience. During the programme, you will attend the University in five-day blocks approximately every six weeks. For the remainder of the time, you will be in your company, developing the skills required of a retail leader.

On completing the course, you will graduate with a BSc (Hons) in Retail and Business Management.

This Retail Leader Degree Apprenticeship currently runs as a closed programme for Wm Morrison Supermarkets Ltd., one of the largest supermarket chains in the country and a large local employer. 112 UCAS points to include at least 2 Higher Level subjects.

Plus Mathematics at HL 3 or SL 4.

Plus minimum of

GCSE English and Maths at grade C or 4 (equivalents accepted).

Teaching, learning and assessment

Methods of assessment are varied and linked to the learning outcomes of the individual modules. They include reports, assignments, presentations, computer simulations, computer-assisted assessment, reflective logs, and group work.

The programme will enable you to develop personal transferable skills, including teamwork, communication, presentation, problem-solving, delegation and leadership, which are essential within a company.

On all modules, you will be expected to apply your learning to the workplace, and module assessments are designed to include this. A sponsoring employer will provide an in-house mentor, whose role is to support your application of learning within the workplace.

Throughout the programme, it is expected that you keep an up-to-date professional development portfolio. Guidance on producing your portfolio will be given in the Personal and Professional Development module.

The Retail Leader Degree Apprenticeship will typically take three years to complete, although the exact duration will be dependant on your previous experience.

During the programme, you will attend the University in five-day blocks approximately every six weeks. On-campus accommodation is available during these block weeks.

For the remainder of the time, you will be in your company, developing the skills required of a retail leader.

Fees, finance and scholarships

Tuition fee

Apprentices do not pay course fees. An Apprentice is employed by an organisation in an apprenticeship job role, which entitles them to earn as they learn.

By studying a Degree Apprenticeship, Apprentices can obtain a degree at no cost to them as individuals.

By employing Apprentices, organisations can make the most of their Skills & Growth Levy fees and train staff in a cost-effective way.

There are currently two funding models:

Levy funded:

If the annual pay bill of your organisation exceeds £3m, you can pay for your apprenticeship training through your levy account.

If you have exceeded your levy contribution, you can fund apprenticeship training through the co-funded model. The government will financially co-fund your apprenticeship training. The government will contribute 75% of the costs, and you, as the employer, will contribute 25%.

Non-levy funded:

If you are a non-levy paying organisation or you are a levy organisation that has exceeded your levy contribution, the government will financially co-fund your apprenticeship training. The government will contribute 95% of the costs, and you, as the employer, will contribute 5%.
