  • Once we receive your completed form, we will offer you a 25-minute telephone Intake Appointment to gather further information and discuss support.
  • If you, or someone you know, are in a crisis situation, please visit our urgent help page.

  • We offer staff one block of 6 sessions per year.
  • We provide a consultation service to support staff dealing with workplace issues.
  • Please contact us to discuss your individual or team requirements.

Mental Health Advice

If you have a mental health diagnosis, our Mental Health Advice team can put in place reasonable adjustments in a Learner Support Profile and discuss accessing Disabled Students’ Allowance.

Please note that for January exams, the cut-off date for reasonable adjustments to be in place is Monday 17th November.

Mental Health Liaison

Mental Health Advisors can help students to access a range of support by plugging you in with key people and services from both within and outside the university.

With your consent, Mental Health Advisors can work with you and academics (e.g. personal academic tutors and module leaders) to ensure you are able to engage with fully with your studies.  We can also help you access external support to help you manage your mental health (e.g. your GP / doctor and other NHS Services).

Learner Support Profile

Mental Health Advisors can support students to complete a Learner Support Profile (LSP) which can enable students to get reasonable adjustments to help them succeed on their course.

  • LSPs can provide a range of reasonable adjustments including additional time in exams and assessment, flexibility around coursework deadlines and whole range of other support depending upon a student’s circumstances.
  • In order to get support through a Learner Support Profile (LSP) you must provide evidence of your diagnosis of your mental health condition.
  • Should you require additional time in exams or assessments we would advise that you complete your LSP at least four weeks prior to your exams

Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA)

Mental Health Advisors can support students with a diagnosed mental health condition to apply for DSA which can provide a wide range of support to students in relation to their studies.

Disability

  • Our Disability Service can support you with reasonable adjustments for specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia, autism, ADHD, a long-term health condition, or a physical or sensory impairment.
  • Refer for support from the to Disability Service:  MyBradford portal

Crisis Support

Mental Health Advisors provide and coordinate support to students who are in a mental health crisis.

Sadly some students may have mental health crises while studying at the university.  Mental Health Advisors can support students in mental health crisis by arranging support from external services (e.g. NHS services) and through liaison with academic services when a student takes a break from studies due to ill health and to support transition back into their studies once recovered.

Disability

  • Our Disability Service can support you with reasonable adjustments for specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia, autism, ADHD, a long-term health condition, or a physical or sensory impairment.
  • Request support through the Disability Service: MyBradford portal

The Service provides a safe space where feelings are validated & the opportunities are given to look at issues from different perspectives in order to find resolution. I found the Service very supportive & helpful.

Registering with a GP (Doctor’s) Surgery

  • All students at the University of Bradford are encouraged to register with a GP.
  • For safety reasons, we do ask for your GP details when you register with us.
  • Your GP can advise about both physical and mental health issues and can prescribe medicine for you should you require it.
  • If you are not registered with a GP, you can register with Bradford Student Health which is located very close to the University Campus.

NHS Bradford & Craven District Talking Therapies

We are working in partnership with the NHS Bradford & Craven District Talking Therapies service to offer guided self-help for students and staff* experiencing Anxiety or Depression.

This involves working through a workbook tailored to your diagnosis and answering questionnaires to monitor your progress.

You will need to commit to fortnightly, 30-45 minute sessions with a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner to support you using the coping strategies developed on the course.

* You must be aged 16 or over and registered with a GP in Bradford, Airedale, Wharfedale, or Craven.
