Learn about the ways we keep our students and staff safe.
Heading off to university is usually the first time your young person will live away from home.
Even if they continue to live at home, they may find themselves on campus later in the evening, studying in our 24/7 library, spending time with friends, or taking part in societies, events and festivals.
We take your young person's safety and security seriously, and work around the clock to make sure our campus is a safe and relaxed environment for everyone.
24-hr on-campus security
Our security staff patrol all areas of campus throughout the day and night, both on foot and by vehicle. We also have an extensive system of CCTV cameras, intruder alarms, and access control in all areas of our property.
If your young person has questions or needs help, they can visit our Security and Emergency Services Office. Centrally located in the Atrium of the Richmond Building, this office is staffed 24 hours a day.
Security at The Green
If your young person will be living at The Green, our on-campus student village, they will be looked after by a team of wardens, along with 24-hour security, CCTV, and unique fob access to each living area.
The Green has been accredited by Secured by Design, the official police security initiative for buildings and their immediate surroundings.
SafeZone phone app
When we speak about safety to staff and students, we encourage everyone to download the free, easy-to-use SafeZone app.
If your young person is on campus and needs assistance with an emergency, first aid or general help, they can use the app to send a location-specific alert to our security team. If they are not on campus, the app will prompt them to dial 999 for assistance.
Learn more about the features and benefits of SafeZone on our Safety and security page, including instructions on setting up the app and linking it to our University's SafeZone region.
Safeguarding
We are committed to safeguarding the welfare of all children, young people under the age of 18, and adults at risk.
For more information about our policies and procedures, and list of safeguarding contacts, please visit our Safeguarding page.
Staying safe off campus
