Hey, I’m Hamza, and I'm currently studying for my Master's in MSc Management.

In this blog, I will share my personal experience on how this course is helping to prepare me for my future career by exploring topics including: modules, help from lecturers, and soft skills that will help me build a fantastic career in the management sector.

Choosing this course

This course is helping me get ready for my future career.

When deciding on my Master's, I chose not to select the work experience or placement option. This is because, during my course, I knew I would be gaining some valuable skills that would be useful towards my future managerial career.

Modules

Since January, I have studied four modules, which have been useful and closely linked to real-life practical case studies. By doing these tutorials, I have learnt some new concepts to take into my career. The four modules I completed were:

  • Human Resource Development
  • Global Technology and Innovation Management
  • Corporate Social Responsibility
  • Cross-Cultural Management

Human Resource Development

In the Human Resource Development module, I've learned how businesses can enhance employee performance through effective training and development. As a future manager, I recognise how important it is to equip employees with the right technical skills, helping them grow and succeed in their roles while contributing to the overall success of the organisation.

Global Technology and Innovation Management

The Global Technology and Innovation Management module has taught me how businesses remain competitive in the technology field. In a constantly changing business environment, new technology is always launching, and it can be difficult for businesses to keep up.

Cross-Cultural Management

The Cross-Cultural Management module has taught me how to manage diverse teams more effectively. Using tools such as Hofstede’s model, I must learn about their cultural differences to help them work cohesively as a team. This is going to help my managerial career as I will need to lead a team with a diverse range of cultural backgrounds to reach company goals more effectively.

Corporate Social Responsibility

In this final module, I have learnt that profit is at the forefront of most business goals. However, businesses must realise that long-term profitability is better linked to ethical practices.

Some companies use the unethical practice of greenwashing, where they produce misleading marketing that falsely claims environmental responsibility. This is dangerous and puts profit ahead of truth, which is highly unethical even though it could boost short-term profits. Learning about this is going to help my career as I will avoid making misleading and false environmental claims, and I will also be able to identify them. I will show good ethical practice for the people and planet.

Help from lecturers

My lecturers have been very informative and welcoming, which has made a big difference to me. They’re not only here to teach, but they're also here to help us build knowledge. If I don’t understand a concept, I can quickly send them an email, and they quickly respond, which is superb! I've even been able to request the PowerPoint slides for lectures on concepts, which were helpful in analytically approaching the questions.

Go for it

If you’re thinking about studying business, or if you’re already doing it and wondering if it’s all worth it, trust me, it is. My MSc in Management is preparing me for the real world in ways I didn’t expect. The mix of useful modules, supportive lecturers, and personal growth is making a huge difference. I’m not just getting a degree but building the skills and mindset I’ll carry into my career. And if I can do it, you can too.

So, what if you could transform your career in just one year?

Specialise in what you love and become the manager the future workforce needs.

Studying MSc Management at the University of Bradford can help you do just that.
