A handy checklist to help keep your young person calm and organised as they get ready for Clearing.

The best way you can help your young person during Clearing is to be there for them.

Help them stay relaxed by making sure they have fun plans with their loved ones the night before Results Day. It's also a good idea to make sure they get a good night’s sleep, if possible.

You and your young person can follow this checklist to collect everything they'll need when they apply through Clearing.

Personal details

  • UCAS personal ID number
  • contact details (address, telephone number and email address)
  • alternate telephone number where they can also be reached
  • details of their qualifications or results
  • a printout of their personal statement to refer to
  • Student Finance England customer reference number (CRN)

Course and university details

  • Visit UCAS and any researched university to see which courses are still available
  • University Clearing helpline phone number for each researched university
  • course name
  • plan B or alternative course name
  • course entry requirements
  • Clearing Open Day date for each university

A space to focus

  • a quiet, calm space with a comfortable chair, writing surface, and tissues
  • a few pens (make sure they work) and notepad for recording conversation details and any follow-up instructions
  • list of points to cover on the phone call
  • fully charged phone (with ability to recharge)
  • water, hot beverages and snacks

We're here to help
