If you haven't heard about Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture, then I don't know where you've been! Bradford has undergone a massive transformation to present itself in the best light in the year of 2025.

In this blog, I will share what this means for me, the changes noticed in the city, and some key events that have already taken place.

City of Culture

So, what is the UK City of Culture?

Simply put, it's an opportunity for the city to celebrate its cultural heritage and host events that promote the rich and diverse cultural festivities in Bradford. It's a great way to bring the community closer together and be proud of the city we love.

Bradford being named the UK City of Culture 2025 has let me experience some incredible events, both by enjoying them as a festival and participating in them as a volunteer.

Events in the city

Celebrating the launch of 2025

Well, all I can say is it started with a bang!

The first event was RISE, where around 200 performers put on a dazzling show. It was hosted in the biting cold of January, and the thousands of audience members enhanced the festive feelings.

Celebrating Ramadan

In March, the city installed a breathtaking exhibition called Infinite Light, which is the second edition of the Ramadan Pavilion. The exhibition was erected to celebrate the lived experiences of Muslims across the UK and around the globe. It brings attention to the core values and traditions of Ramadan.

The structure was stunning to look at in the morning, and lit up like a beacon at night.

The city also hosted the OpenIftar, where I met with other volunteers and got to know so many different people through helping out at the event.

Celebrating local artists

One part of the festivities that I really enjoyed was getting to see the talent of local artists at the City Park Gallery. I really liked the Nationhood displayed at the Impressions gallery!

Improvements in the city

Now, let's talk about the changes that have happened in the city.

In preparation for City of Culture 2025, Bradford council undertook many major roadworks and repairs. One of the biggest improvements is the new and transformed Bradford Interchange bus station. The investment has improved travel within and outside of the city.

In addition, the National Science and Media Museum was also renovated and reopened to the public earlier this year. It exhibits some fantastic exhibitions and installations that celebrate our community.

On one last note, I would like to mention the general increase in pedestrian walking spaces. The busy roads in and around City Park have been transformed into idyllic, calm green spaces that burst with life. This makes the town centre much more friendly, as people are able to walk around without fearing cars.

Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture has been, and continues to be, an awesome opportunity for us to boost our city and be proud of our culture.

If you haven't participated in any events yet, I urge you to hurry up and do so! I promise you will not regret being part of a year that will go down in history.
