Hi, I'm Zahra. I currently live in Bradford, and the city being named City of Culture means a great deal to me. Last year, Bradford was named the 2025 UK City of Culture, and this meant great things were coming. Now, in 2025, Bradford, a city with a rich and varied past, is assuming its new role.

Our city has always been known for its inventiveness, tenacity and vitality. For Bradford residents and those of us studying in this amazing city, this reputation is more than a label.

What does Bradford being the City of Culture mean to me?

Bradford's nomination as the City of Culture 2025 is a celebration of all that makes this city special. It's an acknowledgement of our broad and creative community, which spans generations, cultures and backgrounds. This city honours both its past and future, from its rich industrial background to the emerging cutting-edge modern art.

Thanks to this achievement, Bradford may now raise awareness of its cultural activities, local talent, and growth potential on a national and international level. This has altered my experience as a student, and I feel like I'm a part of something greater. I'm proud to study in a city that is being acknowledged for its creative vitality and a location where I can help change its cultural landscape.

What events have I attended for Bradford 2025?

There has been a lot of exciting activity since Bradford was selected City of Culture 2025, and I've had the honour of going to several events that have highlighted the finest the city has to offer. There is something enchanting about watching Bradford come to life in such a vibrant way, whether it's through live performances or exhibitions by local artists.

The inclusive environment that the activities promote is among their most motivating features. Students, families, artists, and locals from all walks of life gather to celebrate and take in culture in all its manifestations. It's an exciting time for everyone in the Bradford community since these events also provide local talent with a chance to shine.

How has the city improved?

Bradford is undergoing a number of changes and advancements, possibly the most obvious is the significant investment in public areas.

With new venues for imaginative pop-up events, art exhibitions, and live music performances, the city centre is being revitalised. The upgrades to the city's public areas open up more chances for communication, connection and teamwork.

The focus on enhancing infrastructure, whether it's transport connections or the creation of cultural venues, is making it easier for people to move around and take advantage of everything the city has to offer. More organisations are collaborating to establish Bradford as a centre of creativity and culture. These efforts have rekindled the pride and optimism of Bradford's residents.

What makes me proud to study in Bradford?

Being a student in Bradford gives me a lot to be proud of. First of all, the student body is unique and inclusive, and I have the chance to meaningfully interact with diverse viewpoints and concepts through literature, the arts, and cultural interaction.

The University of Bradford feels like home because of the strong sense of community. It offers top-notch tools and chances for students to develop both intellectually and personally, and there's always something going on where I can meet other students.

Beyond its academic advantages, Bradford is just a fun place to be. The city is always changing, and there's some excitement in the air as everyone celebrates the City of Culture 2025. Seeing Bradford change, and knowing that I'm learning in a community that encourages innovation, creativity and culture, is inspiring.
