Education for Sustainable Development
During the year 2009/10 the Directorate for the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) continued to provide guidance to our academic schools to help them meet our ambitious target of ensuring that ESD is embedded is all taught courses. Working from the UNESCO framework for ESD our approach has been to build academic engagement and ownership across our diverse subject communities and disciplines.
During 2009-10 Ecoversity supported over 50 Student Ambassadors to carry out events, projects and activities around sustainable development. Over 30 separate projects were delivered including the ReVamped fashion show where a team of ambassadors designed outfits from second-hand and vintage clothing modelled by 40 students. Other projects included the Green Move Out, where students organised the collection of unwanted items at the end of term for charity. The Ecoversity student engagement approach is to allow students the space, flexibility and support, when needed, to develop the projects they believe to be important.
