BDH Innovation projects

Phase 1 of the Bradford Digitisation Hub (BDH) will deliver 30 fully funded short innovation projects to West Yorkshire based SMEs between March 2024 and March 2025. Designed in collaboration with partner companies the projects will be performed by experts at the University at both the Centre for Chemical and Biological Analysis and the University's Advanced Manufacturing Laboratories.

The innovation focused research projects will aim to help SMEs develop new products and/or manufacturing processes or improving existing products and processes to make them more commercially attractive and/or efficient.

Manufacturing and Engineering support activities including an impressive suite of laboratory 3-D printers, surface characterisation and materials testing equipment with expertise offered through our Engineering facilities and expertise.

Project examples:

  • Design and manufacture of components using 3-D printers using metals, plastics and continuous fibre composites.
  • Bespoke surface characterisation of components and coatings using a range of high specification equipment.
  • Process and component functional verification and testing.
  • LifeCycle Assessment (LCA) methodology encompasses the entire life cycle from raw material extraction and production to use, disposal, and potential recycling or waste management.

In addition we offer a wide range of materials analysis using both chemical and physical analysis- offered through the Centre for Chemical and Biological Analysis

Project examples:

  • Investigations into batch-to-batch variations
  • Product & Raw material stability studies
  • De-formulation studies on competitor products
  • Unknown/Impurity Identification
  • Developing new QC testing methodology
  • Analysis for regulatory REACH analysis
