A leader in his profession with substantial experience in the areas of System on Chip, mobile and IoT areas, Murthy was previously Executive Vice President of Qualcomm Technologies Inc. and Co-President of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies, where he led its semiconductor business in the computing and mobile segments.

John was appointed as Chief Executive of Air BP, the oil company’s global aviation business, in September 2016. In over 27 years with BP he has held a number of different roles including CEO of BP’s global Liquid Petroleum Gas business and CFO for the global Petrochemicals business. John joined BP in 1989 starting as a graduate Chemical Engineer in Refinery & Petrochemicals operations followed by roles in commercial, corporate head office, finance, strategy and business leadership in Europe, US and Asia.

He is a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining, a Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply, Adjunct Professor at the University of Queensland and Chairman of the Institution of Chemical Engineers in Australia. In 2017, John was inaugurated as the new president of IChemE.
