1987 - 2015
In memory of our friend Sumayya Patel
The death of former Optometry student and dear friend Sumayya Patel at the age of twenty seven is a cause of sadness to all that remember her fondly. Sumayya passed away on 3 January 2015 after a short illness.
The daughter of Umerji Adam Patel and Zarina Patel, Sumayya was born on 4 December 1987 and went to school in Blackburn. She attended the University of Bradford to study Optometry, graduating in 2010. She moved to Scotland in 2013 to work as a trainee optometrist. On her return to Blackburn later that year Sumayya joined Drakes Eye Care where she worked until her passing.
Summaya was devoted to her family, and thought the world of her nieces and nephews. She was a keen baker, and had dreams of travelling around the Middle East. We shall remember her as a dedicated student and practitioner, but above all as a genuine and stimulating friend. Nothing remains for us now but to submit to the decree of God and to send our heartfelt condolences to her family.
Sumayya is survived by her parents, Umerji Adam and Zarina Patel, her two brothers, Altaf and Asif, and her grandmother Ayesha Isap Patel. Al Mohsineen Charitable Trust has been set up in her memory.
