BA Modern Languages 1965-1969, PhD 1974, MBA 1985

Rosina Jones

"After graduation with a double First in German and French, (and no doubt motivated to stay on in Bradford till my now husband, Tony, finished his degree!), I accepted a research scholarship in the Department of Modern Languages."

After two years and a visiting research post at the Pädagogisches Institut Berlin, I accepted a lectureship at the Pädagogische Hochschule in Ludwigsburg.  An academic career followed. I lectured in German at Coventry, then Sheffield Hallam, but increasingly moved my academic interest into European Studies and International Business.

A sabbatical saw me return to Bradford - to the Management Centre - to undertake an MBA in International Business, where as a mature student I was honoured to receive the best student prize. My MBA saw me rapidly offered a senior post in Strategic Management at Humberside Poly now Lincoln University, where I finally became Dean of Hull Business School, and was awarded a chair in International Business in recognition of my contribution to international business education.

A pioneer of student mobility and diversity, a passionate believer in applied language studies within business education, I eventually - after retirement - was enticed back to academia by Hull University Business School to spearhead their European student recruitment. This I did until moving to France to live a quiet life, where you find me these days reminiscing about the 'old days', which all began some fifty years ago in Bradford, and laid the foundation of a successful academic career.
