Chesham and Horton

Named after Chesham Street, which was once lined with Victorian terraced houses, the Chesham Building opened in the late 1960s and sits alongside the Horton Building.

In 2011, a £6m extension to the Horton Building created purpose-built clinical wards and specialist health teaching facilities for realistic clinical training.

Biomedical Engineering

As pioneers in healthcare innovation, we were the first UK university to offer Medical Engineering (1996) and Clinical Technology (2001), linking engineering and medicine to improve health and support the NHS.

This legacy continues today, with a £2.2m UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship award funding the development of a revolutionary biomaterial that could speed up healing using the body's own movement, reducing the need for invasive surgery, cutting NHS costs and lowering carbon emissions.
