Amartya Sen is world-leading economist and philosopher, Nobel Prize winner and ex-Master of Trinity College, Cambridge.
He is also Senior Fellow at the Harvard Society of Fellows.
Earlier on he was Professor of Economics at Jadavpur University Calcutta, the Delhi School of Economics, and the London School of Economics, and Drummond Professor of Political Economy at Oxford University.
His work spans across many different disciplines - from welfare economics, public health and gender studies to social choice theory, theory of measurement and political philosophy, which have helped inform many of his publications and international positions, such as the President of the Econometric Society, the American Economic Association, the Indian Economic Association, and the International Economic Association.
Amartya Sen has been internationally recognised on a number of occasions, most notably he was the recipient of the Commandeur de la Legion d’Honneur (France); the National Humanities Medal (USA); Ordem do Merito Cientifico (Brazil); Honorary Companion of Honour (UK); and the Nobel Prize in Economics.
