50th Anniversary Vice-Chancellor's Lecture with Will Hutton

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bradford, Professor Brian Cantor hosts an annual lecture which brings distinguished speakers who are experts in their fields to Bradford.

A capacity audience came to hear keynote speaker Will Hutton, Principle of Hertford College, writer, economic, financial and business television and radio commentator and Chair of the Big Innovation Centre deliver his lecture titled ‘A Perfect Storm: The Multiple Crises Overrunning Britain’.

The lecture explored the referendum which resulted in Britain voting to leave the EU. Will discussed the factors which contributed to the result and the economic, cultural and constitutional challenges Britain now faces.

Will stressed the importance of people influencing the terms of Brexit, of the need to reimagine how society works and of the continued relationship between Britain and the EU.

Will also spent some time in a Q&A session with University of Bradford students and shared his thoughts on Brexit and the role of the media today.

The Vice-Chancellor’s Lecture series is an annual event bringing high-profile speakers to Bradford to share the views and thoughts on their area of expertise. The next lecture will take place on Wednesday 4 October 2017 and speaker details will be confirmed in the New Year.
