We are offering these courses for people who envisage a career in the media. All our courses address the latest developments in digital media and offer an opportunity to specialise in a specific area.

An enormous amount of what we know comes to our attention through the media. A degree in Media Studies will help you make better sense of what’s going on around you; this course gives you an invaluable insight into the ways in which our media work - looking at a broad selection of areas, from the origins of the Press, through the rise of radio and television, to the present expansion of new media and mobile communications.

The University of Bradford’s EIMC Department has a long and successful track record in providing courses in new media technologies. This suite of
BAs in Media Studies complements these, taking advantage of the up-to-date knowledge of the Department’s teaching and research staff. The courses are taught as part of the University’s unique partnership with the National Media Museum, which boasts world-class resources and archives. Besides the optional content of the core Media Studies (MS) degree, students may wish to follow a Media Studies course with a specialist pathway.

We offer six alternatives:

Media Studies with Cinematics (MSCin) looks at low-budget and art house digital video work, allowing you to show your creativity by breaking traditional conventions

Media Studies with Computer Animation (MSCA) combines practical experience of both 2D and 3D computer animation with your core media studies content

Media Studies with Digital Imaging (MSDI) allows you to develop skills in photography and image manipulation alongside your contextual and theoretical work

Media Studies with Music Technology (MSMT) includes software-based recording, sequencing and sampling in a studio environment

Media Studies with Television (MST) provides an opportunity to carry out television production work, including studio experience, camera work and editing

Media Studies with Web Design (MSWD) covers both technical and artistic aspects of content creation for the World Wide Web

Media Studies graduates enjoy good employment opportunities, and the course is suited to anyone who wants to understand how information is communicated in today’s fast-moving world. The course provides you with the critical, analytical and problem-solving skills that are required in many of today’s commercial environments.
