If you love playing 11-a-side football but can't do with the hassle and stresses involved when playing for the University football team, then the Unique Premier League Football (UPLF) is just what you're looking for!
Just as the FA does for the Barclays Premier League, the University of Bradford are 'committed to making football accessible, enjoyable and safe for everyone, regardless of race, religion, gender, sexuality, background or ability'. (TheFA.com)
While promoting healthy competition the UPLF is a great way of taking part in the game you love, without the stresses of a 'must win' mentality.
With over 150 participants last season, the competition is becoming more and more popular each year. Teams are made up of departments all across campus. Everyone from Peace Studies to Archaeology and Engineering are represented in this league.
The competition is played on the floodlit University Artificial 11-a-side Football Turf on a couple of week nights but mostly on a Sunday afternoon. Match officials are provided for each game. Students will get the opportunity to referee games if they wish, and are paid to do so.
Just as in major football competitions across the world, teams are given a fixtures list at the start of the season. When the league is underway, updated league and top goal scorer tables are posted out online and also displayed in Unique Fitness and Lifestyle.
When the season comes to a close there will be a presentation, where the winning team will be presented with individual trophies/medals. They will also get their name engraved on the UPLF winners' shield.
