Overview

  • Is there a trade-off between the environment and growth?
  • Will the internet bring down the music industry?
  • Should we ban or tax unhealthy food?
  • What caused the global economic crisis and can government action reverse it?

Our economics courses locate the discipline within the real world, enabling you to use economics to analyse practical problems like these.

We offer a wide range of degree courses, with opportunities for placements and study abroad.

Our Economics degrees will provide you with analytical and communication skills that are highly sought after by employers. Our graduates go on to work in banking, finance, marketing, accounting and management, whilst there are opportunities to directly use your economics knowledge, particularly in the Civil Service, local government or teaching. All students study a core of economic theory and applications, with particular applications and further specialisms depending on degree path.

  • Our programme of lunchtime seminars by outside speakers complements regular classes in keeping you informed of the latest thinking in economics
  • Our degrees provide you with partial exemption from Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) examinations

Aims

Specialist modules focus upon accountancy, financial markets, investment appraisal and corporate finance, and international monetary economics.
