Training

Training

The main emphasis of the training is to provide volunteers with the necessary skills to assist them in their voluntary activities and to prepare them for their placements. Training comprises a compulsory induction session and an optional accredited module. Training is not designed specifically for any one volunteering project.

Induction sessions

A basic induction session is provided in your volunteer interview by the UCAN Manager. A more specific induction will take place in the organisation where you will be volunteering. The induction enables volunteers to maximise the benefits to themselves, their CV and their future employability skills.

You will find out about:

  • How to match your skills, abilities and interests to the opportunities available
  • What to do if you can't find the ideal placement
  • Meet other people, both students and staff, who are volunteering
  • Explore the characteristics of successful volunteers
  • Explore the issues and policies associated with volunteering

In addition, volunteers may receive a further induction from their voluntary placement provider.
