Biography

Ferda Halicioglu is an economist specialising in applied econometrics with extensive academic, editorial, and research accomplishments. He currently serves as an Associate Professor in Economics at the University of Bradford’s Department of Peace Studies and International Development in the UK and holds a Senior Visiting Fellowship in Applied Econometrics at the University of Lincoln.

He holds a PhD in Economics from Istanbul University, an MSc in Economics from Cardiff Business School, and a BSc in Economics from Ankara University. He has held academic posts in the UK and Turkey, including professorships at Istanbul Medeniyet University and Yeditepe University and a senior lectureship at the University of Greenwich, London.

He has authored over 60 peer-reviewed journal articles, focusing on international economics, energy economics, tourism, health, and sports economics. His work has appeared in high-impact journals and has been widely cited, with over 6,000 citations, an h-index of 32, and an i10-index of 47. His research has been listed among the top-cited in multiple prestigious energy and environmental economics journals and has been repeatedly recognised in the Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% Scientist list (2019–2023).

He is an experienced journal editor and reviewer. He serves as Editor of the Global Business and Economics Review, Associate Editor of several journals including  Cleaner Environmental Systems, Emerging Science Journal, Frontiers in Environmental Science, and Humanities & Social Sciences Contributions, and editorial board member for over a dozen academic journals. He has conducted over 1,700 peer reviews for more than 200 international journals, edited over 500 manuscripts, and is ranked among the top 250 peer reviewers worldwide by Web of Science.

His teaching repertoire is broad, encompassing undergraduate to doctoral levels in econometrics, international economics, statistics, and macroeconomics. He has supervised numerous MSc, PhD, and undergraduate theses, contributing substantially to academic mentorship and development.

In addition to his academic roles, he has served as a consultant for JCR Eurasia Rating and held several administrative and professional memberships, including leadership roles in Turkish and international economic associations. He has received multiple honors, including the Yeditepe University Top Academic Person Award and various outstanding reviewer awards from leading journals.

Research

Ferda Halicioglu’s research encompasses a wide range of topics, including international trade, environmental economics, and development economics. He has authored numerous publications in reputable journals, such as ‘Energy Economics’  ‘Economic Modelling’, ‘Energy Policy, Energy, ‘International Journal of Finance and Economics’,  ‘Applied Economics, ‘Journal of Economic Studies’, ‘Tourism Economics’, ‘Health Policy’, ‘Journal of Asian Economics, ‘Economic Systems’, ‘International Trade Journal’, ‘Economic Analysis and Policy’,  ‘Journal of Post Keynesian Economics’, ‘Journal of Socio-Economics’,  ‘Journal of Quantitative Analysis in Sports’, ‘International Journal of Social Economics’,  etc.

He researches the interplay between energy consumption, economic growth, and environmental outcomes, including renewable and non-renewable energy sources. His seminal paper on CO₂ emissions, energy consumption, and trade in Turkey (2009) ranks among the most cited in energy economics. This research is highlighted as pioneering and featured in multiple survey articles in top journals,  see the internet links: Energy Policy (2023), Gondwana Research (2022), Environmental Science and Pollution (2021), Energy Economics (2020), and Journal of Economic Surveys (2019).

His research on international economics explores trade dynamics, exchange rate impacts, the J-curve, and balance-of-payments constraints, with a particular emphasis on Turkey and emerging markets.

His work on development economics includes themes like foreign direct investment (FDI), financial development, and economic growth, particularly in developing contexts.

His recent research interest is in the impact of governance indicators on human development.
