Kitty Benny

Biography

Kitty joined the midwifery team at the University of Bradford in July 2022, moving from a role in practice education at a local hospital. Prior to her time in practice education she worked as a rotational midwife, gaining experience in all areas of hospital based midwifery. She spent the larger part of her midwifery career working on the labour ward during which time she completed additional training in enhanced maternal care to support her role in providing care for women needing high dependency care. This sparked an interest in the intersection between critical care and maternity care, which she has built on by getting involved in the development and delivery of our module in enhanced maternal care.

Kitty has been involved in the development of our new shortened programme for registered nurses wishing to become midwives, and taken a lead on supporting their practice education. She has since taken on the role as postgraduate/CPD lead.

Kitty is a doctoral researcher in Philosophy, working on this part time alongside her role as lecturer in midwifery. Her research interests are mainly within healthcare ethics and feminist philosophy. Kitty's PhD focuses on consent in non-ideal circumstances, applied to consent within maternity care. The project is funded by a White Rose collaborative award supported by the Association for Improvements in Maternity Care.
