PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT OPTION 1 Managing People and Performance (2 days)

Aims to give managers advice and guidance in managing staff through the employee life-cycle. It will cover managing new starters, managing health related absence, managing performance, conducting effective performance reviews, exit and leaving etc. NB this 2-day course will eventually be superseded by the 4 x Managing Effective Performance workshops. |

Workshop 1: Conducting Performance Reviews

Includes an overview of effective performance management, how to lead an effective performance review meeting, setting objectives and giving constructive feedback. |

Workshop 2: Managing Well-being & Health Issues

Contains practical guidance on how to reduce absence and promote wellbeing. Managers will also learn how to conduct an effective ‘return to work’ interview. |

Workshop 3: Managing (poor) Performance |
Will explore the reasons why people underperform and include strategies and tactics for managing good and poor performance more effectively. |

Workshop 4: Managing Difficult Conversations |
Will help managers to develop the confidence to engage in those difficult conversations we so often avoid. The workshop will be highly participative with plenty of opportunity to rehearse difficult conversations in small groups. |

Aims to train staff in the appropriate process for recruiting and selecting a new member of staff to the University. Compulsory for all managers and recruiters. (NB following on from this 2-day course, managers and recruiters may occasionally be required to attend "refresher" briefings, to be updated on any changes in Employment legislation). |

Brief workshop to update managers on current recruitment processes and legislation. All managers and recruiters whose previous attendance at the 2-day training course was prior to October 2010, should attend one of these refresher sessions. |
