British Academy Research Project on Inclusive, Smart and Sustainable Cities (2015-18)

Dr PB Anand at the Division of Peace Studies and International Development in the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS), University of Bradford, and Professor Sudhir Chella Rajan in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, Chennai, India have been jointly awarded the International Partnership and Mobility Award of the British Academy for a three year research project on Inclusive, Smart and Sustainable cities. The programme aims to promote dialogue and debate amongst scholars and policy makers through five research workshops to be organised between 2015 and 2018.


Call for papers - DSA 2017 conference panel: The Intrigue of Sustainable Cities

The aim of this panel is to invite a dialogue between academics and practitioners. We welcome theoretical, conceptual ideas and discussions on city-wide strategies, policies and plans for sustainable cities, measuring and ranking cities using multi-dimensional indicators, and case studies.

Cities, Corporates and Communities: Social Responsibility and Sustainable Cities?

This is the second workshop in a British Academy funded three year (2015-18) research project jointly between University of Bradford and IIT Madras on ‘Infrastructure for sustainability’. This present workshop is being organised jointly by Dr PB Anand of University of Bradford and Dr Anjula Gurtoo of IISc Bengaluru.

Symposium on 'Smart and Compassionate Cities'

This one day Symposium brings together several internationally renowned experts on smart cities, inclusive cities and compassionate cities. The aim of this symposium to engage in a critical discussion on smart cities as a concept, its usefulness and pitfalls and to explore the possibilities to develop common frontiers of interest between smart cities ideas and compassionate cities concepts.
