Part time Learning

  • Worried about debt after completing your course?
  • Want to learn at a pace that suits you?
  • Want to study around your job commitments?
  • Want your learning to fit round your childcare or caring responsibilities?

If your answer is 'Yes' to any of the above questions then you'll be pleased to learn that here at the School of Lifelong Education and Development, we organise learning flexibly, so it fits in with your needs and requirements.

Most of our courses are available to study part time instead of full time - this doesn't mean part time courses are worth any less than full time. You get exactly the same award at the end of your course just like full time students, however the difference is you will study at a pace that suits you rather than following the rigid timescales for full time studies. Take a look at our Courses A-Z.

To find out more about Part-time learning please visit the University 'New Route' pages.

Financial support

Best of all if you earn less than £16,000 you may well end up completing your course with no debt! There is government support to help you study.

If you earn more than £16,000 you can pay as you earn and the result will be little or no debt as well. Take a look at some of our [case study examples] to better understand how the fee arrangements work.

For fees information please see Tuition Fees.

Step by step

Each of our courses are modular in structure - this means that each course has a number of components called 'modules' which when completed, makes you eligible for the appropriate award.

Some of our modules involve as little as three hours at University per week. If you are returning to formal learning after a break, our study skills modules are designed to provide you with plenty of support and ease you back into study. Teaching is varied to suit your pace and style and will provide a wide variety of learning experiences. Assessments vary from traditional essays and exams to learning journals, portfolios and presentations.

Associate Student Scheme

If you don't want to study for a part time course leading to a full award, but want to learn for interest or professional development, we also offer the Associate Student Scheme, which allows you to dip in and out of learning by either completing single modules or attending our Day Schools through our Public Programmes. Find out more by visiting the Associate Student Scheme.
