Creative Technology

The Department of Creative Technology focuses on the areas of computer animation and effects work, games and interactive media.

Our ethos is to help you immerse yourself in these areas, and to encourage you to make your own contribution towards advancing them.

There’s never been a better time to develop and utilise your creative talents. With today’s technology, we can visualise impossible events and build worlds that bring our imagination to life.

We can interact with fantastic environments that challenge us and connect us to global communities.

Art, science, creativity and technology are all meeting head on, and this is having a profound impact on the way that we make sense of the world around us.

  • All of the courses in the Department of Creative Technology develop your experience and understanding in a wide range of creative, technical and practical modules, which allow you to build up a strong portfolio of work within your chosen specialism
  • Significant and successful industry professionals are involved in course design and give regular lectures, tutorials and masterclasses
  • If you wish, you may take the opportunity to spend a 'year-out' period of twelve months in appropriate employment. Past placements have included Disney Interactive, Redstar and Jagex
  • We have a unique partnership with the National Media Museum, which is home to Bradford Animation Festival (BAF) - one of the largest annual animation and games festivals in the UK, giving students unique access to a range of facilities and extensive archives
  • Students can undertake professional style production projects that replicate the creative industrial experience
  • Students utilise the most up-to-date animation and CGI facilities as part of their courses, such as Escape Studios Courseware and our Vicon 16 camera Motion Capture Suite.

We work closely with an extended family of industrial contacts, to stay on top of fast-moving developments and trends. We have excellent resources in the Department that match and often surpass what you'll find in the commercial sector. Whilst we deal with relatively 'new' subjects, we have a long track record in these fields and were one of the first UK Universities to develop courses in computer animation and games. Since the early 1990s, we have always encouraged a blend of creative and technical know-how, embracing timeless principles and traditions, and forward-thinking innovation at the same time.
