Research and Knowledge Transfer Centres

RKT Centres (JPEG, 12KB)

Research and knowledge transfer activity takes place across all University disciplines.

In the strongest areas we have established eight Research and Knowledge Transfer (RKT) Centres. All have impressive track records of research council funding, research studentships, and working with industry and business.

Centre for Advanced Materials Engineering

The Centre for Advanced Materials Engineering is the choice for external bodies in the development of smart materials for high added-value products aimed primarily at health and wellbeing - medical devices, biomedical products, and 'resource efficient' speciality materials and products.

Centre for Applied Social Research

The Centre for Applied Social Research is a centre of excellence for the promotion, execution and dissemination of social scientific research and for the application of that research excellence in a wide range of practical areas.

The Centre is an organisational response within the University of Bradford to the demand for research expertise and knowledge that can flexibly address the practical needs of policy makers, organisations and third sector actors.

Automotive Research Centre

The Automotive Research Centre, headed by Felician Campean has brought together a team of experts in the School of Engineering, Design, & Technology with a broad range of knowledge and experience in Mechanical and Automotive Engineering and a track record of industrial collaboration covering over 20 years.

We have a strong track record of successful industry partnerships with major companies including Jaguar Land Rover, Cummins, and Ford. We help Manufacturing Industry and other organisations improve designs, systems, products, and processes to enhance their competitiveness and sustainability, focusing particularly on efficiency improvements and CO2 reduction in the road transport sector.

Centre for Pharmaceutical Engineering Science

The Centre for Pharmaceutical Engineering Science is an interdisciplinary research centre, which has been developed across the pharmaceutical sciences, polymer and process engineering disciplines.

The Centre offers expertise in the areas of pharmaceutical materials, drug delivery systems, novel process development, reactive extrusion, material characterisation and Process Analytical Technology (PAT).

Research activity is focused on novel technologies for pharmaceuticals and biopharmaceutical processing in the niche areas related to advanced pharmaceutical materials with initial emphasis on polymer melt rheology, the rheology of biopolymers, improved coating strategies and process analytics.

Centre for Polymer Micro & Nano Technology

The Centre for Polymer Micro and Nano Technology is a new facility within the world-class IRC Polymer Engineering laboratories at the University.

The Centre for Polymer Micro and Nano Technology allows access to equipment and expertise required for companies of all sizes to develop a successful micromoulding or nano-scale surface feature moulding process.

Centre for Skin Sciences

The Centre for Skin Sciences is a leading centre of expertise in the skin and hair sciences working closely with the health and personal care sectors.

Based at the University of Bradford, Yorkshire, UK, the Centre's internationally renowned scientists integrate basic science with applied research to gain a greater understanding of what is required for healthy skin and hair.

We work with partners to help turn this understanding into exciting opportunities for new technology and products.

Centre for Sustainable Environments

The Centre for Sustainable Environments involves a dedicated team of specialists from the University of Bradford developing the knowledge and capabilities that will enable more sustainable environments to be created.

Based within the Schools of Engineering, Design and Technology, Social and International Studies and Life Sciences, the Centre's internationally renowned scientists collaborate to meet contemporary environmental challenges.

Centre for Visual Computing

With a strong interdisciplinary focus, research activity at the Centre for Visual Computing brings together three areas of expertise – computational, physiological and psychological – in order to make advances in fields as diverse as visual media, biometrics, security and computer gaming.
