Fundamentals of Sustainability

Module code: CPE4002-B

This level 4 module provides students with basic knowledge in aspects of process sustainability that, in conjunction with the engineering principles acquired through the level 4 Design, Build & Test module, will set the foundations for students to succeed through the remaining levels to become a sustainable process engineer. The module will provide students with insight into the concept of sustainability in the face of dynamic global changes. Students will be introduced to a wide range of theory and practice, including social, economic, and environmental challenges, with specific focus on the chemical and manufacturing industries in an international and local context. The module will challenge students to reflect on sustainability and its current approaches in process engineering. This module supports two key learning pillars: Process Engineering and Sustainable Engineering. As students progress through their programme, they will dive deeper into these areas, starting with the basics at level 4 and moving towards more advanced topics at level 6 and beyond. All modules align with the Bradford Curriculum and meet the requirements of the IChemE accreditation framework. Download the PDF for CPE4002-B_2026_7.pdf
