Coming to the University of Bradford was probably my best decision so far. On campus, everyone is very friendly and open-minded. Being a foreign student, I was worried that I would have trouble easing in, but I felt accepted and welcomed from the start. All the university staff are friendly, helpful and approachable. They assisted me with all the things that came with moving to another country: Be it finding a flat, language classes or enrollment, to name but a few.
I am currently in my second year of studying psychology and I can honestly say that I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience so far. The psychology department is full of enthusiastic and engaging lecturers, helpful staff and committed learning support officers. Moreover, the lectures are very well delivered and there is always room for questions. In the modules, challenging ideas are presented and critical thinking is always encouraged. The laboratory sessions provide you with real 'hands-on' experience, as you actively take part in experiments, group discussions, role-plays and a variety of different workshops.
Before coming here, my biggest problem was that I didn't really know what I wanted to do in the future. Now, my problem is deciding which area of psychology I find the most interesting and appealing. Nevertheless, the most incredible thing was that almost everyone in the department knew my name just after a couple of weeks at the university. If things don't go so well, there is plenty of help available. First of all, there are the personal tutors, who are very supportive. They are always informed about your progress and if you need to see them, you can email them to arrange a meeting. In addition, there are help sessions, a language center, a common room, extensive online resources, weekly office hours and even a counseling service, so, you can't really help but feel welcome, appreciated and well looked after.
Currently, I am applying to participate in a research studentship over the summer, where students have the opportunity to conduct psychological 'field work' with supervision from a member of staff from the Psychology department.
